Shivanasamudram (Bharachukki) Falls

This is one of the amazing falls @ 2-3 hrs drive from Bangalore. There are different names around this falls like Bluff, Shivanasamudram, Shivasamudram, Gaganachukki, Bharachukki. Mother Kaveri splits into two major branches creating Gaganachukki and Bharachukki falls. The below is that of Bharachukki , few kilometers to the south-west of the Gaganachukki falls. Even here, the falls is huge (roughly with a width of 850 mts). It is a beautiful panoramic view and with the full flow one can find different kinds of smaller falls. Like Jog falls, not sure if each of these have their own names :).  The center falls is very different in that it creates different levels before flowing and continuing down . To its left are couple of beautiful ones [not with too much of water] and lends itself for longer exposures even during early evenings (as it would be in shade :) ). Onto the right, the rock formation tends to create multiple stepped falls with the right amount of water [will post this some time in future !!!] .

Some suggest to get to the falls before noon as the light would directly be falling on the falls. But for me it is always the dreamy effect and the dusk light that creates the magic. Its worth checking out the larger versions by clicking on the below image.

It is also significant to note that the Asia’s fist hydro electric project was started here in the beginning of the century(1902).

Bhoganandishwara Temple

Bhoganandishwara Temple – This small unknown temple, near Nandhi hills, is perhaps one of the finest and ornate of the Dravidian temples that I came across in  Bangalore, Karnataka. There are three temples side by side , each having a slightly different style , probably built during different periods. The back wall of the temples was the most ornate, with very different sculptures like standing Ganesha among others.

Avatar 3D @ inox (Garuda Mall, Bangalore)

I have never written a Movie review & this is neither one. Watched Avatar 3D recently@ Inox, Garuda Mall, Bangalore. It was quiet an experience that triggered this post !

Avatar 3D – amazing

Technology and Story telling coming together at its finest, it was probably worth a wait for James Cameron for a decade to get this project completed. Personally i liked the storyline too and would not mind watching the movie without the 3D. Its probably a good movie in 2d and a great one in 3D.

But I could not help wondering how amazing this movie would be in IMAX 3D. Got that chance, once to watch ‘Fly Me to the Moon 3D’ and ‘Great Secrets of Grand Canyon’ @ the Nat Geo IMAX theater, Arizona. Yeah, really, only the humongous screen of IMAX combined with 3D would do Avatar justice. Wish I would get a chance to get to Hyderabad sometime to get that chance ;-) . I think currently that is the only IMAX 3D screen available in south India, for now.

Avatar 3D @ INOX – not so amazing

The movie experience as a whole was not so great, especially with the ticket prices going upward in Bangalore. There seems to be no limit on what the ticket prices cap ought to be in Bangalore. With regular prices staring from Rs.350 – Rs.450 and the PVR Gold Classes going on to Rs.1000 , it is crazy. Converting to $ it might not sound high, but compare it with getting similar or better experience @ Satyam Cinemas @ Chennai for 30% of the cost.

Again there were some technical issues – One of the speakers went off and the audio was so bad that one could not make out the conversations. Luckily, the theater manager heard to the complaint got it fixed and reran the movie from previous 15-20 mins. Thought it kind of spoilt the movie flow, atleast the issue was rectified for the reminder of the movie.

Was casually commenting to friends that rather than getting a Gold class PVR ticket, we could just take the car and drive to Hyderabad for the IMAX 3D Experience. May be I should !!! Financially would still be better, the price of the tickets there being Rs.200 – only catch it takes 10 hrs to drive :)

Lovely Sunset over Bangalore, India

Sunset
Bangalore, India

Lovely sunset with warm vibrant fading in the horizon and kind of leaving Inner Light to the skys above.
This is one of my favorite sunset shots due to various reasons

This was a shot from my new apartment @ Bangalore, India ! It is amazing what u can see when u take some time to look around. Generally we travel all over to get to see sights like this … atleast I do !!!

Also this was a first shot from my new Wide Angle (10-22mm !!!) It has got amazing clarity. Need to try a full size to see the details on the construction , the playground etc. Probably need to get some vijayanagar architecture shots to better leverage the wide angle.
