I have never written a Movie review & this is neither one. Watched Avatar 3D recently@ Inox, Garuda Mall, Bangalore. It was quiet an experience that triggered this post !
Avatar 3D – amazing
Technology and Story telling coming together at its finest, it was probably worth a wait for James Cameron for a decade to get this project completed. Personally i liked the storyline too and would not mind watching the movie without the 3D. Its probably a good movie in 2d and a great one in 3D.
But I could not help wondering how amazing this movie would be in IMAX 3D. Got that chance, once to watch ‘Fly Me to the Moon 3D’ and ‘Great Secrets of Grand Canyon’ @ the Nat Geo IMAX theater, Arizona. Yeah, really, only the humongous screen of IMAX combined with 3D would do Avatar justice. Wish I would get a chance to get to Hyderabad sometime to get that chance ;-) . I think currently that is the only IMAX 3D screen available in south India, for now.

Avatar 3D @ INOX – not so amazing
The movie experience as a whole was not so great, especially with the ticket prices going upward in Bangalore. There seems to be no limit on what the ticket prices cap ought to be in Bangalore. With regular prices staring from Rs.350 – Rs.450 and the PVR Gold Classes going on to Rs.1000 , it is crazy. Converting to $ it might not sound high, but compare it with getting similar or better experience @ Satyam Cinemas @ Chennai for 30% of the cost.
Again there were some technical issues – One of the speakers went off and the audio was so bad that one could not make out the conversations. Luckily, the theater manager heard to the complaint got it fixed and reran the movie from previous 15-20 mins. Thought it kind of spoilt the movie flow, atleast the issue was rectified for the reminder of the movie.
Was casually commenting to friends that rather than getting a Gold class PVR ticket, we could just take the car and drive to Hyderabad for the IMAX 3D Experience. May be I should !!! Financially would still be better, the price of the tickets there being Rs.200 – only catch it takes 10 hrs to drive :)
